Chicago
As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, the Consulate General of India in Chicago celebrated the Constitution Day on 2nd December 2022.
Consul General Somnath Ghosh highlighted the extraordinary foresight and wisdom of the makers of India’s Constitution that borrowed the best from major democracies but adopted them to fit Indian ethos. He outlined the enormous contribution of India’s Constitutions in unifying political India and in nation-building.
The other speakers included State Senator Adriane Johnson, Dr. Gopal Lalmalani, President of the Village of Oak Brook, Ms. Peggy Sharpio, StandwithUS Midwest Executive Director, and a few members of the Indian American community. In addition, the Consulate received virtual messages from Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Prof. Dipesh Chakraborty, a noted historian from the University of Chicago.
About 100 prominent guests from the political, business, community, think tanks, cultural, academic, and media circles joined the reception. The Consul General’s gesture of asking the audience to contribute with their remarks was much appreciated by the gathering.
