Prime Minister Modi Receives Cyprus’s Highest Civilian Honour: Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III: In a moment of great pride for India, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was conferred with the prestigious Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest civilian award of Cyprus. The honour was presented by His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of Cyprus, during an official ceremony on Monday 16th June.
Graciously accepting the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Government, and the people of Cyprus. He described the recognition as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations—a bond rooted in shared democratic values, mutual respect, and a strong commitment to international cooperation.
“This award is a tribute to the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—‘The World is One Family,’” said the Prime Minister. “It reflects our collective aspiration for global peace, progress, and unity.”
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s dedication to deepening its partnership with Cyprus. He stated that the honour would inspire both nations to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, education, innovation, and cultural exchange. With a strong emphasis on shared goals, he highlighted the commitment of India and Cyprus to promoting peace, security, sovereignty, and prosperity in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
