Aamir Khan Ditches OTT, Brings ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ to YouTube for ₹100: In a groundbreaking move that could reshape the Indian film distribution landscape, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan announced that he will release his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube for just ₹100. This bold decision sidesteps traditional Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, marking a major shift in content accessibility and creator empowerment.

The announcement came during a press event in Mumbai, where the 60-year-old actor elaborated on his vision for Aamir Khan Talkies, the YouTube channel he launched in March. The channel already boasts over three lakh subscribers, and now, it’s set to become a hub for both blockbusters and indie cinema.
“This was the reason why I did not give away the rights of Sitaare Zameen Par — this plan was in motion,” Aamir stated. “Our goal is to release every film under the Aamir Khan Productions banner on YouTube after completing their theatrical run. Each will be available at a minimal fee of ₹100, without ads.”

Following Sitaare Zameen Par, classic titles like Lagaan (2001), Taare Zameen Par (2007), and Peepli Live (2010) will also be added. Moreover, viewers can expect to rediscover timeless gems from Aamir’s late father, filmmaker Tahir Hussain, such as Caravan (1971) and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993).
Championing New Voices
Aamir Khan emphasized that the channel will also serve as a launchpad for young, independent filmmakers who often face hurdles in securing theatrical releases.
“By showcasing their films on this platform, I hope to provide visibility and opportunity to emerging talent,” he said. “We will only take a nominal cut, ensuring creators benefit directly from their work.”

This initiative makes Aamir Khan the first Indian actor-producer to adopt such a direct-to-viewer digital model using YouTube. In an era dominated by OTT giants, his move stands out as an effort to democratize access to cinema — both for audiences and creators.
With Sitaare Zameen Par leading the charge, Aamir Khan seems determined to rewrite the rules of film distribution. If successful, this model could open new doors for storytellers and offer fans affordable, ad-free access to quality cinema.
