McCain Foods Brings Bollywood to Canadian Kitchens with New South Asian-Inspired Fries and Short Film> McCain Foods Canada has launched a cinematic and culinary celebration of South Asian culture with the debut of two new frozen potato products—and an original Bollywood-style short film to match.

The company unveiled McCain Masala Fries and McCain Chili Garlic Potato Bites this week as the first offerings in its new Flavours of the World lineup, aiming to bring globally inspired tastes to Canadian dinner tables. To mark the occasion, McCain premiered the McCain Masala Movie, a vibrant, five-minute short filmed entirely in Mumbai and crafted in collaboration with top Bollywood talent.

The film opens in a bustling Indian marketplace, where a chance collision between a fry vendor and a spice merchant sparks a whirlwind romance—complete with elaborate dance sequences, colorful costumes, and dramatic flair. Directed by Mumbai native Nitin Menon, the production features choreography by Longinus Fernandes, famed for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, and costumes by acclaimed designer Maxima Basu.

“This isn’t just a product launch—it’s a tribute to the joy, energy, and flavour of South Asian storytelling and cuisine,” said Matt Kohler, Managing Director of Canada Retail at McCain Foods. “We wanted Canadians to experience not just the taste, but the spirit behind these dishes.”

The new products draw directly from McCain’s successful Indian portfolio. Masala Fries—seasoned with chili, onion, garlic, and fenugreek—and Chili Garlic Potato Bites, featuring golden-crisp diced potatoes with a spicy kick, are already top sellers in India. The Canadian team worked closely with McCain’s India division to replicate the recipes using the same spice blends and preparation methods.

“Through extensive testing and collaboration, we ensured the Canadian versions deliver the same bold, authentic experience,” said Aditya Krishna, Director of Sales and Marketing for McCain India.

Both items are designed for convenience, ready in minutes using an oven or air fryer, and are now available at major grocery retailers nationwide.

Industry analysts say the move reflects a broader trend in the frozen food sector: as Canadian consumers seek bolder, more diverse flavours, global food brands are responding with culturally rooted innovations. McCain’s Flavours of the World initiative signals further international launches in the coming months.

For those eager to watch the full spectacle, the McCain Masala Movie is streaming free at mccainmasalamovie.ca —complete with subtitles, behind-the-scenes footage, and recipe ideas.

Founded in 1957 in Florenceville, New Brunswick, McCain Foods is the world’s largest producer of frozen potato products, operating in more than 160 countries. Its Canadian division employs approximately 2,400 people across seven production facilities.

With this launch, McCain isn’t just serving fries—it’s serving a story. And for the first time, that story comes with a dance number.
