British Bangladeshi philanthropist Misbah B. S. Chowdhury became the first individual of Bangladeshi origin to receive the Global Humanity Award at the prestigious Global African Day Awards in London. The ceremony, held on Sunday evening at the luxurious Hilton Hotel, brought together African dignitaries, ambassadors, and global changemakers to celebrate leadership, service, and humanity.
This year’s nine awardees:
- Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone
- Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, Director General of Edo State Diaspora Agency
- Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria

Misbah B. S. Chowdhury received the award for his tireless efforts to expand educational access across Africa. Through his work with various institutions and communities, he has impacted thousands of lives by providing resources, mentorship, and opportunity.
In his moving acceptance speech, Chowdhury stated,
“I believe working for the expansion of education is not charity—it is a moral obligation we all share. That belief has driven my long-standing efforts to promote education not just in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh but also across several African countries. This recognition on African Day is a great honor and will further inspire me to continue this mission.”
He is the Founder President of the MASC Foundation, a Trustee at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, and a Global Trade Strategist. For over 15 years, he has championed causes related to poverty alleviation, education, and cultural dialogue—not only in Africa but also across Asia.
This award not only honors his dedication but also represents a broader shift: a global acknowledgement of transcontinental collaboration and the power of diaspora leadership.
