Canada Expands Access to Oral Health Care for Seniors

Canada Expands Access to Oral Health Care for Seniors. The Government announces the approval of coverage under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for two million Canadian seniors. This milestone empowers seniors across the country to access the dental care they need.

Increasing Accessibility for Seniors

With over 90,000 seniors already benefiting from care provided by participating providers. Many would be experiencing oral health services for the first time in decades. For seniors seeking services under the CDCP, Sun Life’s CDCP Provider Search offers to locate oral health providers within their communities.

Expanding Eligibility Criteria

Seniors aged 65 and over, without dental insurance and with an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000, can apply to the CDCP. Further expansions in June will encompass adults holding a valid disability tax credit and children under 18. This would extend the reach of affordable oral health care to Canadian residents.

Growing Provider Network

Presently, nearly 10,000 oral health providers extend a spectrum of services to CDCP-covered patients. This network includes dentists, dental specialists, independent dental hygienists, and denturists.

Streamlining Payment Processes

Starting July 8, oral health providers will have the option to directly bill Sun Life for services rendered under the CDCP. This measure enables clients to select their preferred oral health provider, provided they agree to direct billing terms.

Ensuring Clarity on Costs

While CDCP coverage assists in mitigating costs. Clients are advised to inquire about co-payments and additional charges based on their household income.

Urging Equitable Access

Recognizing oral health care as an integral component of overall health. The CDCP aims to bridge gaps in coverage, ensuring individuals do not face dilemmas between oral care and financial obligations. With an estimated nine million Canadians currently lacking dental coverage, the CDCP is a path towards equitable access to essential healthcare services.

In conclusion, the expansion of the Canadian Dental Care Plan reflects the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and improving health outcomes for all Canadians, irrespective of their economic circumstances.
