Denmark Opens New Work Permit Route for India and 15 Other Countries:Denmark’s Parliament has approved legislation creating a new pathway for companies to recruit workers from 16 selected countries, lowering the salary threshold for eligible foreign employees while introducing additional safeguards for Danish workers and employment conditions.
The new scheme is expected to come into force on January 1, 2027 and is designed to help Danish businesses address labour shortages by making international recruitment easier.
Under the legislation, certified Danish companies will be able to recruit workers from the designated countries under a lower salary requirement than existing work-permit routes. The scheme is particularly expected to benefit skilled professionals and businesses struggling to fill vacancies.

The new route covers nationals of 16 non-EU countries, including:

The inclusion of major labour markets such as India, China, the United States, the UK, Canada, Japan and Australia could significantly broaden recruitment opportunities for Danish employers.
Lower Salary Threshold
One of the key changes is a reduction in the salary requirement for workers entering Denmark through the new scheme. Previous proposals indicated a threshold of approximately DKK 300,000 annually, substantially below the standard pay-limit requirement, although applicants must still meet the conditions applicable to the new scheme.
The measure is intended to give Danish companies greater flexibility in recruiting international talent while maintaining protections against wage and employment-condition undercutting.
Collective Agreements and Union Oversight
A central feature of the new system is its connection to collective agreements. Participating employers will have to meet requirements designed to ensure that foreign workers receive appropriate employment conditions.
Union involvement and collective-agreement requirements are intended to provide safeguards for both international employees and workers already employed in Denmark.
Significant Opportunity for Indian Professionals
For Indian workers, the legislation could create a new route into the Danish labour market. India is among the 16 countries covered by the scheme, potentially opening additional opportunities for professionals with Danish job offers.
