The event was hosted by Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies MP, with the support of the Honorary Consulate of India, Wales, led by Capt. Raj Aggarwal OBE DL. Organised by the Welsh Government, the celebration showcased the shared spirit of cultural harmony, mutual respect, and collaboration between the two nations.

A Vibrant Evening of Music and Dance
Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies extended warm Diwali greetings to the Indian diaspora, emphasizing the festival’s message of light, hope, and togetherness. He also praised the Indian community’s contributions to Wales, particularly in healthcare, business, and education, saying they continue to enrich Welsh society.
Capt. Raj Aggarwal OBE DL, Honorary Consul of India in Wales, shared that the India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could bring an £80 million annual boost to the Welsh economy. “This agreement will help Welsh firms diversify and access India’s vast and dynamic markets,” he said, underscoring the deepening economic partnership between Wales and India.

The evening featured graceful classical dance performances, melodious musical renditions, and a dynamic display by the Anushka Phadke Collective, along with the Rekha Natya Academy and students from the Royal Welsh College. Guests later enjoyed a vibrant buffet of authentic Indian dishes, symbolising the warmth and richness of Indian hospitality.

The celebration was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Rt Hon Lord Mayor of Cardiff Adrian Robson, Lady Mayoress Jayne Cowan, Director of International Relations and Trade Andrew Gwatkin, Naval Regional Commander Tristram Kirkwood, Regional Engagement Officer Rob Govier, and senior officials from the British Army and Royal Air Force.

It was also a pleasure to meet Peter O’Connor, CEO of [Company Name], and Subramanian (Subbu) Hariharan of Tech Mahindra, who joined a select group of guests at a VIP reception with the First Minister. The gathering celebrated the Indian diaspora’s growing influence in Wales’s business, education, and innovation sectors.
Strengthening Wales–India Bonds
The Diwali 2025 celebration underscored the strong cultural and economic ties between Wales and India. It highlighted shared values of friendship, inclusivity, and cooperation while promoting Wales as a hub for global innovation and multicultural engagement.

Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies summed it up perfectly: “Diwali reminds us that light will always triumph over darkness, and unity will always prevail over division.”
As Cardiff sparkled with festive lights and joyful performances, the Diwali celebration served as a shining example of how culture connects communities and strengthens nations.
