The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of Chicago hosted a memorable evening of celebration and recognition at their flagship event, the Star Awards Night, on August 16, 2024, at the Matrix Club in Naperville. The event was not only a celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day but also a platform to honor outstanding achievements within the community.

The evening kicked off with a rousing performance by Sparsh Shah, a Guinness World Record holder, singer, and rapper, who performed patriotic songs. His performance was complemented by the Nache Mayuri dance troupe, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere that set the tone for the night.

The event was graced by Bollywood icon Jaya Prada, the special guest for the night. She was honored with the FIA Choice Award for Timeless Icon in Indian Cinema, celebrating her lasting impact on the film industry. The presence of other dignitaries, including FIA Chairman and Founder Sunil Shah and FIA President Pratibha Jairath, added to the event’s prestige.

“Bringing together leaders, influencers, and community members to honor outstanding achievements across various categories, the event was a grand success,” FIA Chicago said in a press release. The night featured a variety of performances, including those by social media influencer Deepika Shah, who has over 8 million followers, and dance numbers by Nache Mayuri and Elizar Dance Academy set to Jaya Prada’s iconic hits.

India’s Consul General in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh, addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of community and cultural heritage. Other notable guests included the Mayor of Schaumburg Tom Dailly, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, and State Senator Laura Murphy, who presented several key awards.

A surprise highlight of the evening was the recognition of India’s World Champion Blind Cricket Team, honored for their extraordinary achievements. Their presence underscored the event’s theme of celebrating excellence and resilience.

The Star Awards Night was more than just a celebration of culture; it was a tribute to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the community. Awards were presented after a rigorous nomination, voting, and jury process in various categories:
