Organizers stated that nearly 4,000 people attended the meeting, which lasted about four hours. At the conclusion, the participants put forward Karki’s name, citing her neutrality and credibility.
Karki, 73, confirmed that she is prepared to take on the responsibility if entrusted with the role. She noted that the Gen Z group leading the movement has expressed confidence in her ability to guide the country during the transition.

The announcement drew mixed reactions. While some welcomed the proposal, others expressed dissatisfaction. By the evening, groups of youths had gathered outside Jangi Adda, raising slogans in opposition to Karki’s name.
Other Political Figures in Discussion
Several other figures have also come into focus amid the political uncertainty:
- Dharan Mayor Harka Raj Sampang Rai met with Nepali Army Chief Ashokraj Sigdel. Rai later clarified that his visit was limited to discussions on the country’s current situation.
- Business leader Durga Parsai also met the army chief. According to sources, Parsai emphasized that any future government should remain acceptable to all citizens.
- Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has been widely discussed on social media as a potential leader. Sources close to him indicate that he would consider involvement only if Parliament is dissolved first.
With Karki’s name formally proposed and other leaders under discussion, the path toward forming an interim government remains uncertain. The differing views within the youth movement reflect both the urgency of the transition and the diverse expectations of leadership during this period.
