Indian American Leader Juned Qazi Appointed Deputy Mayor of Marlboro Township: Marlboro Township has appointed Juned Qazi as its new Deputy Mayor, marking a significant milestone for the township and underscoring the growing role of Indian Americans in local governance across New Jersey.

Deputy Mayor Qazi brings with him a strong record of public service and community leadership. He was elected to the Marlboro Township Council in 2021, becoming one of the first Indian Americans to serve in the township’s governing body. His election was part of a historic shift in local leadership, ending nearly two decades of single-party control and signaling renewed civic engagement among residents.

Following his swearing-in in January 2022, Qazi earned the confidence of his colleagues and was unanimously elected Council President, reflecting bipartisan respect for his leadership style, work ethic, and commitment to responsible governance.

“I am truly honored to continue serving the beautiful Township of Marlboro as Deputy Mayor,” Qazi said. “I sincerely thank the residents of Marlboro for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to serve our community.”

Originally from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, Qazi attended St. Francis High School before immigrating to the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen. His journey reflects the broader immigrant experience—rooted in hard work, civic responsibility, and a commitment to giving back to the community.

Professionally, Deputy Mayor Qazi is a businessman with extensive experience in real estate and construction, bringing practical, hands-on knowledge of infrastructure, development, and fiscal responsibility to local government. His background has informed his approach to policy-making, particularly in areas related to development, municipal services, and long-term planning.

Before entering U.S. local politics, Qazi was actively engaged in public affairs, including serving as President of the Indian National Overseas Congress (I) in 2014. His long-standing interest in governance and community service has continued in the United States through civic engagement and leadership within the Indian American community.

Deputy Mayor Qazi credited Mayor Jonathan Hornik for his leadership and vision, noting that his guidance has helped strengthen municipal services, maintain Marlboro’s AAA bond rating, and preserve the township’s standing as one of New Jersey’s premier communities.

“I am deeply grateful to Mayor Hornik for his leadership, confidence, and constant support,” Qazi said.

He also thanked fellow Council members Antionette DiNuzzo, Michael Milman, Mike Scalea, and Iqleen Virdi for their collaboration and teamwork, emphasizing that unity and shared purpose have driven the township’s progress.

As Deputy Mayor, Juned Qazi reaffirmed his commitment to Marlboro’s future. “By the grace of God, I remain fully committed to working hard for Marlboro and its residents. This role is not just an honor—it is a responsibility I take very seriously.”
