In a ceremony held at the Bharat Pavilion in New Delhi, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver, the Consulate General of India in New York, and the High Commission of India in Nicosia, Cyprus, were celebrated with National One District One Product (ODOP) Awards in the ‘Missions’ category. The accolades were bestowed in recognition of their outstanding efforts in showcasing the creativity and dynamic craftsmanship of Indian artisans on the global stage.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal presented the prestigious awards during a ceremony that marked a significant milestone in acknowledging the pivotal role played by international missions in championing India’s rich artisanal heritage.
The Consulate & Embassy Officials from USA, Canada, Nicosia witnessed the ceremony virtually with other invited guests.
The ODOP Awards, launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on the Rashtriya Puraskar portal, aim to honor those who have demonstrated exceptional achievements within their respective Districts, States/UTs, and International Missions abroad, contributing to economic development through the ODOP approach.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, the ODOP programme, spearheaded by DPIIT, seeks to foster socio-economic development across all districts of the country. The initiative involves selecting, branding, and promoting one unique product from each district to address challenges within their supply chains, enhance market accessibility, and harness export potential.
Under the ODOP initiative, products are meticulously chosen by states and UTs, considering the local ecosystem, Districts Export Hubs (DEH), and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products. The finalized list is communicated to DPIIT by the relevant State/UT departments, with activities such as exhibitions and capacity building executed at the state/UT and district levels in collaboration with the States/UTs.
The National ODOP Awards serve as a testament to the tireless efforts of Indian Missions in Vancouver, New York, and Nicosia, reflecting their commitment to promoting India’s cultural wealth and fostering economic development through the ODOP initiative on the global stage.
