International Gita Mahotsav in Canada Brings the Bhagavad Gita to Life: The timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita came alive in Canada as the Indian High Commission in Ottawa successfully hosted ‘Uttar ~ Answer’, a thematic musical dance ballet inspired by the Gita’s teachings. The event was organized in collaboration with Jeevan Jyoti Performing Arts and held at the Kailash Mital Theatre at Carleton University, drawing an engaged audience from diverse backgrounds.

The International Gita Mahotsav is celebrated annually to promote the Gita’s teachings of duty, righteousness, knowledge, and spiritual balance. This year, the Ottawa celebration stood out by bringing ancient philosophy into modern context through a powerful artistic performance.

Ballet Turns Ancient Wisdom into Art

Set on the battlefield at the brink of war, the performance translated the eternal dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjun into expressive choreography and vivid emotion. Each segment reflected themes of truth, duty, detachment, resilience, and moral clarity. According to a post by the Indian High Commission on X, the ballet “translated verses of the Gita into expressive movement, rhythm, and emotion.”

High Commissioner Highlights Gita’s Relevance

Addressing the audience, Indian High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh K. Patnaik emphasized that the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita are not merely ancient scripture but a living cultural heritage. He noted that its message continues to inspire responsibility, harmony, and resilience in today’s world.

Celebrations Across Canada

Furthermore, Indian missions worldwide have been commemorating International Gita Mahotsav 2025. Earlier, on December 6, the event was celebrated in Toronto by Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan. The program featured devotional bhajans, dramatic stage plays, and spiritual discourses. Indian Consul in Toronto Kuljeet Singh Arora highlighted how the Gita’s philosophy aligns with values such as diplomacy, service, and moral duty.

The festival coincides with Ekadashi, the 11th lunar day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha. It marks the day when Lord Krishna delivered the divine teachings to Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Thus, the Mahotsav remains a symbolic tribute to timeless wisdom and universal humanity.
