Nepali Film ‘Gauthali’ Sells Nearly 1 Million Tickets, Earns $1.9 Million to Become 2026’s Biggest Hit: Nepali film Gauthali has emerged as the biggest domestic box-office hit of 2026, selling nearly one million tickets and generating NPR 260.31 million (approximately US$1.9 million) in ticket revenue, according to the latest official box-office figures reported on October 26.

The film sold 944,817 tickets across Nepal as of 11:59 p.m. on October 25, establishing a commanding lead over competing releases and highlighting the growing commercial potential of the country’s film industry.

Gauthali has more than doubled the earnings of its closest competitor, Pension Patta, which collected NPR 102.36 million, equivalent to approximately US$750,000, from 360,593 tickets. The substantial gap underscores the scale of Gauthali’s success in the domestic market.

‘Gauthali’ Dominates Nepal’s Box Office

The latest figures show a significant difference between Gauthali and other leading Nepali releases. The film’s nearly one million ticket sales reflect strong audience demand and have positioned it at the top of this year’s domestic box-office rankings.

Other films also recorded notable earnings, although they remained well behind the leading title.

  • Gauthali: NPR 260.31 million — approximately US$1.9 million
  • Pension Patta: NPR 102.36 million — approximately US$750,000
  • Aa Bata Aama 2: NPR 41.95 million — approximately US$307,000
  • Ba: Ek Yoddha: NPR 35.14 million — approximately US$257,000
  • Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2: NPR 27.64 million — approximately US$202,000
  • 12 Gaun 2: NPR 18.31 million — approximately US$134,000

The US-dollar figures are approximate conversions from Nepalese rupees, using an indicative exchange rate of NPR 137 per US dollar. Actual conversions vary with exchange rates.

Nepali Cinema Records a Major Box-Office Success

The figures, compiled through Nepal’s government-operated Cinema: Box Office system, offer an indication of audience attendance and ticket revenue across the domestic market.

With nearly 945,000 tickets sold, Gauthali has established a substantial lead over other releases, demonstrating the commercial reach a successful local production can achieve in Nepal.

The performance also places renewed attention on Nepal’s film industry, where domestic productions compete for audiences amid changing viewing habits and competition from international cinema and streaming platforms.

While the reported figures reflect domestic ticket revenue rather than worldwide earnings or a film’s net profit, Gauthali’s box-office performance marks a significant commercial achievement for Nepali cinema in 2026.

As the year’s biggest domestic hit, the film’s success highlights the importance of audience engagement and strong local appeal in driving box-office results.
