The accolade was presented to him at the esteemed Global Women Awards ceremony held in the United Kingdom over the weekend, where his remarkable achievements were celebrated among prominent leaders and change-makers from around the world. The ceremony recognized his tireless efforts in fostering brotherhood and compassion, and it brought him much-deserved global recognition.
In an expression of gratitude, Dr. Saqib humbly stated, “Thank you very much, all. It is truly an honor to receive this award in the presence of so many inspiring leaders, men, and women who are making a positive impact on this world.”
As the founder of Pakistan’s largest interest-free microfinance program, Dr. Amjad Saqib’s journey of transformation began in 2001 with a mere $100. Over nearly two decades, his visionary organization, Akhuwat, has evolved into the nation’s largest microfinance institution. It has successfully disbursed a staggering equivalent of $900 million to uplift five million impoverished families, boasting an astounding loan repayment rate of nearly 100%.
For his groundbreaking work in poverty alleviation and commitment to humanitarian causes, Dr. Saqib had previously earned a nomination for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. His unwavering dedication to uplifting the lives of the underprivileged has garnered widespread admiration and acclaim from all corners of the globe.
In 2022, the Nobel Peace Prize received a record 343 nominations, including 251 individuals and 92 organizations from various nations, reaffirming the significant impact of Dr. Saqib’s contributions among the plethora of global humanitarians.
