Philip Green will be appointed as Australia’s high commissioner in India: Report

Philip Green, Australia’s ambassador in Berlin, will be appointed as the next high commissioner in India, a report said. Barry O’Farrell, the current ambassador, will remain in charge till June. The diplomat is posted in Germany since 2020.

Australia Today reported that at that time, Philip Green was keen to be posted in New Delhi, but the government decided to appoint former New South Wales Premier Barry O’Farrell.

Barry O’Farrell will remain as the ambassador till June to facilitate the smooth sailing of the Quad summit scheduled for the last week of May, the report said.

Green is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently First Assistant Secretary, United States and Indo-Pacific Strategy Division. He has previously served overseas as Head of Mission in Singapore, South Africa and Kenya. Green holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney.
