Former Indian cricket star Harbhajan Singh and tennis icon Sania Mirza have been appointed as ambassadors of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC). Joining them are international stars Patrice Evra, Fadi El Khatib, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The announcement was made during the “Dubai Sports Retreat” on Monday, held at the iconic Museum of the Future. The retreat, organized under the directives of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the DSC, aimed to promote active lifestyles and elevate Dubai’s standing as a leading sports destination.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, highlighted the significance of the appointments. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sheikh Hamdan shared, “I met with Dubai’s sports ambassadors during the retreat — a distinguished group of Arab and international stars who call Dubai home. Their commitment to advancing sports and nurturing talent is truly inspiring.”
He further emphasized, “The ideas and insights discussed at the event will shape a brighter future for sports. enhance our clubs’ achievements, and nurture local talent. Our goal is to make sports a way of life, a source of happiness, and a key driver of Dubai’s growth.”

Sania Mirza, a six-time Grand Slam champion and former doubles world No. 1, expressed her excitement. “Being named a Dubai Sports Ambassador is a tremendous privilege,” she said. “Dubai has been my home for years. And I am thrilled to help bring people together through sport and celebrate the city’s rich sporting culture.”
Harbhajan Singh, who boasts an impressive record of 711 international wickets, including 417 in Test cricket, also shared his gratitude. “I am deeply honored to be appointed as an Ambassador for sports in Dubai. In the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan and other esteemed stakeholders,” he said.
