Semma South Indian cuisine restaurant earns one Michelin Star

New York

Semma, a restaurant in New York City’s (NYC) Greenwich Avenue, which has been serving heritage South Indian dishes since October last year has earned its first Michelin Star. It’s the only Indian restaurant in the US with a Michelin star in the year 2022. Michelin’s 2022 guide to NYC, has 73-starred restaurants and 17 restaurants were awarded single stars for the first time. Michelin characterizes one star as “High-quality cooking, worth a stop!”

Unapologetic Foods (Dhamaka, Adda) by restaurateur Roni Mazumdar & Chintan Pandya is bringing you to the soul of Southern India with Chef Vijay Kumar leading the charge. Semma is an exploration of heritage Southern Indian cuisine that has rarely been seen outside of local homes and neighborhoods. Chef Vijay, a native of Tamil Nadu, brings the deeply personal and authentic moments of farm-life on ancestral land unapologetically to the plate with explosive flavors and regional ingredients.

“This is a full-blown South Indian uprising. Semma in Tamil means fantastic and it was indeed true to the name!” ~Harish Bharadwaj
