Sualeh Asif cofounded AI Startup Set to Command $18 Billion Valuation: Anysphere, a pioneering AI startup co-founded by Pakistani-American entrepreneur Sualeh Asif, is poised to reach a staggering valuation of $18 to $20 billion in its upcoming funding round, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Founded in 2022 by Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark, Aman Sanger, and Michael Truell, Anysphere has rapidly emerged as a leader in AI-powered software development tools. Notably, 25-year-old Sualeh Asif, the startup’s Chief Product Officer, hails from Karachi, Pakistan. He studied at Nixor College in Karachi before moving to the United States in 2018, where he met his co-founders while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Anysphere’s flagship product, Cursor AI, is transforming the way developers write code. It functions as an AI assistant that not only writes code but also anticipates developer needs, identifies inefficiencies, and solves complex problems with ease. On his personal website, sualehasif.me, Asif writes:

Sualeh Asif

“I’m building Cursor to discover a new way to write code. I owe much of my fun to my friends and MIT. I am extremely excited about the new capabilities of LLMs and applications to code tools.”

Earlier this year, Anysphere raised $60 million in Series A financing, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital, including investment from Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe, resulting in a $400 million post-money valuation, according to TechCrunch. This was followed by a $105 million Series B round in December 2024. Most recently, the startup raised $900 million, bringing its valuation to $9.9 billion in a round led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and DST Global.

Now, several investors are reportedly in discussions for a funding deal that would more than double its current valuation to $18 billion to $20 billion. Anysphere’s annualized revenue has surpassed $500 million, highlighting its rapid growth and the increasing market demand for AI-driven coding solutions.

This landmark valuation positions Anysphere as one of the fastest-growing AI startups globally and showcases the immense contributions of South Asian-origin entrepreneurs to the American AI landscape.
