Pakistan showbiz industry diva Mahira Khan is all set to play the role of Meena Kumari in a Pakistani remake of the 1972 blockbuster, Pakeezah.
Hamid Hussain and his UAE-based production house, Action Consultancy will produce the classic remake.
According to reports, apart from the Raees star, many prominent artists are in consideration for the upcoming project.
“Mahira is onboard, but she is one of many stars we are aiming for in the remake of this epic. There are some more famous artists that are in talks to be roped in the film”, revealed the source.
Earlier, it was announced that Sajal Aly is all set to star as Umrao Jaan in an eight-part series adaptation of Mirza Hadi Ruswa’s 1899 novel.
One of the most expensive movies produced in the 1970s was regarded as Pakeezah. The project was completed on February 4, 1972, for a budget of INR12.5 million (US$160,000) to INR15 million (US$190,000).
