Indian Expat Runner Achieves Record-Breaking Birthday Gift for His Wife

Indian Expat Runner Achieves Record-Breaking Birthday Gift for His Wife. An Indian expat, Nigesh Kotoor Padikkal, turned his wife’s birthday into an unforgettable celebration by accomplishing a record-breaking feat. Without an income to buy even a bouquet, the Kerala-born athlete decided to cross the UAE on foot, covering all seven emirates. Completing the journey in 5 days, 15 hours, and 53 minutes, Padikkal not only outpaced previous record holders but also delivered a deeply personal gift that captured the hearts of many.

Padikkal, a former fitness coach who lost his job in 2020, has faced financial and emotional struggles for years. Yet, his determination to honor his wife, who has been the family’s sole breadwinner, inspired him to take on the grueling challenge. Speaking to Khaleej Times, he explained, “Not being able to afford a flower for her felt devastating. This run became my lifeline, a way to give her something extraordinary.”

Breaking the Record

The record for the fastest crossing of the UAE was previously set in 2021 by Sean Burgess, who completed the journey in 6 days, 21 hours, and 48 minutes. In March 2024, Evren Ozka broke it by finishing in 5 days, 22 hours, and 53 minutes. Padikkal’s effort, pending Guinness World Records’ confirmation, surpassed both achievements.

“When I learned others were attempting the record, it pushed me even harder,” Padikkal shared. Training for months, he shifted from a vegan diet to a high-protein plan to build the stamina needed for such an arduous task. His preparation included commemorative runs on key dates, including Indian Independence Day and the birthdays of Dubai’s leaders.

A Community Effort

The feat was not achieved alone. Padikkal’s wife, a banking professional, worked tirelessly to gather sponsorships, securing running gear, electrolytes, and other essentials through the local running community. As the challenge progressed, friends and fellow runners coordinated support, providing food, ice, and encouragement.

“People left work and family commitments just to help,” said Padikkal’s wife. “It was heartwarming to see how much they cared.” The running community’s involvement became a pillar of his success, with runners joining him at different points to motivate and sustain his momentum.

Overcoming Pain for Love

Padikkal admitted the journey was mentally and physically taxing, but thoughts of his wife and mother kept him going. “In those moments of pain, I pushed through because I wanted to do this for them,” he said.

The experience has left Padikkal humbled and grateful. “This is a collective win. Without my wife’s belief and the running community’s support, I wouldn’t have made it,” he reflected.

Inspiring Dreams

“This achievement shows the power of community,” said one of his supporters. “When people come together, extraordinary things happen. No dream is too big when determination and support align.”

As Padikkal and his wife finalize the data for official recognition, their story stands as a testament to resilience, love, and the incredible power of community.
