India Women and Men Crowned Junior Hockey Asia Cup Champions, Book World Cup Spots: India completed a memorable double at the Junior Hockey Asia Cup on Sunday, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning their respective continental titles and securing qualification for the Junior World Cups.
The women’s team began the celebrations with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over China in the final, before the men’s side followed with a commanding 4-1 win over South Korea.

Sanika Mane Seals Women’s Title
The Indian women’s junior team produced a disciplined defensive performance to edge hosts China 1-0.
Sanika Chandrakant Mane scored the decisive goal in the 17th minute, producing a clever deflection after finding space inside the Chinese circle.
China enjoyed considerable possession but struggled to break through India’s well-organised defence. Their best opportunity came from the match’s only penalty corner, but the effort was ruled out after the ball entered the goal above the permitted height.
India absorbed the pressure during a tense second half and held on to retain the continental crown for a third consecutive edition.
The victory also secured India’s qualification for the FIH Junior Women’s World Cup.
India Men Dominate South Korea
The men’s final proved considerably more one-sided as India defeated South Korea 4-1.
Ajeet Yadav opened the scoring in the ninth minute before India added two further goals to establish a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time.
India continued to control the contest after the interval, with Ashu Maurya extending the advantage by converting a penalty corner in the final quarter.
South Korea managed a late consolation goal, but India comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to claim another historic championship.
The victory made India the first team in history to win the men’s Junior Asia Cup four consecutive times.
Sixth Men’s Title
The latest men’s triumph is India’s sixth overall Junior Asia Cup championship.
India had previously lifted the men’s trophy in 2004, 2008, 2015, 2023 and 2024, and the latest victory further strengthened their dominance in the continental competition.
India had topped their group with three wins and one draw before defeating Malaysia 3-1 in the semi-final.
South Korea reached the final after defeating Pakistan 4-1 in the other semi-final.
Pakistan eventually secured the bronze medal, defeating Malaysia 4-2 in the third-place playoff.
World Cup Qualification Secured
The men’s and women’s titles came with an additional reward: qualification for their respective Junior World Cups.
For India’s young players, the Asia Cup victories provide valuable momentum ahead of the global competitions, where they will face the strongest junior teams from around the world.
The achievement is particularly significant because both teams managed to secure continental supremacy on the same day.
Hockey India Announces Cash Rewards
The celebrations were further boosted by financial rewards announced by Hockey India.
Each player from the men’s and women’s championship-winning squads will receive ₹3 lakh, while every member of the respective support staff will receive ₹1.5 lakh.
The rewards recognise the performances of the players and coaching and support teams behind India’s successful campaigns.
