Kenya
In a momentous decision coinciding with its 60th Independence Day anniversary, Kenya has unveiled plans to grant visa-free entry to all foreign travelers effective January 2024. However, this progressive shift does not imply unrestricted access; rather, the government is introducing a state-of-the-art digital platform for electronic travel authorization.
President William Ruto made the historic announcement during a celebratory address at Uhuru Gardens in the southwestern part of Nairobi, stating, “Beginning January 2024, Kenya will be a visa-free country. It shall no longer be necessary for any person, from any corner of the globe, to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya.”
Under this innovative system, travelers will be required to apply through a forthcoming online platform. Once submitted, a meticulous security check, conducted in collaboration with the traveler’s country of origin, will ensue, with outcomes communicated within one to two weeks. The introduction of this digital authorization system aims to streamline the entry process while ensuring a thorough vetting process for all visitors.
Importantly, this digital travel authorization will be offered free of charge, eliminating financial barriers and encouraging a surge in tourism. The move aligns with Kenya’s commitment to fostering a more accessible and efficient entry process, marking a significant leap forward in the country’s approach to global travelers. The unveiling of the online platform is eagerly anticipated and is expected to further elevate Kenya’s status as an attractive destination for international visitors.
