Celebrating its 30th anniversary, SAJA reflects on its remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone for South Asian journalists in the U.S. and Canada. Over the years, SAJA has organized galas, events, newsroom visits, and networking sessions, all aimed at fostering community and showcasing the impactful work of its members.
Amidst the challenges facing the media industry, including declining trust and widespread layoffs, SAJA reaffirms its commitment to supporting South Asian journalists. With a focus on mentorship, professional development, and community building, SAJA serves as a vital resource for journalists navigating the evolving landscape of journalism.
As SAJA prepares to mark its milestone anniversary, members can anticipate a series of celebratory events and initiatives. The organization also plans to expand its existing programs, introduce new events and opportunities, and provide information on grants and fellowships.
With a dedicated board at the helm and a calendar filled with promising events, SAJA looks forward to embarking on its next chapter alongside its members. The newly elected board members, selected by current SAJA members in December 2024, have assumed their leadership roles and are poised to steer SAJA towards continued success.
