Sindhi Association Chicago (SAMC) Hosts Cheti Chand Celebration

The Sindhi Association of Metropolitan Chicago (SAMC) hosted a vibrant Cheti Chand celebration at Ashyana Banquets, Downers Grove.

The event brought together attendees of all ages for a delightful showcase of Sindhi culture. Somnath Ghosh, Consul General of India in Chicago, Mayor Larry Herman of Oakbrook, Mayor Tom Dailly of Schaumberg, Former Mayor Dr. Gopal Lalmalani of Oakbrook, and Aurora Alderwomen Shewta Baid, graced the event.

The event commenced with traditional rituals and prayers led by Dr. Gita Rupani and Manju Dadlani, honoring Jhulelal.

The stage came alive with captivating performances by Henna Ballaney and Ria Matta. Namish Nagdev conveyed the essence of Cheti Chand to the attendees.

DJ Paulami Majumdar kept the evening pulsating with Bollywood beats. Attendees enjoyed sumptuous Sindhi delicacies curated by the SAMC Committee, led by President Vinita Gulabani and Secretary Dr. Subhash Balaney.

President Gulabani led her to organize and celebrate the evening by showcasing Sindhi heritage. FIA Chairman Sunil Shah lauded her efforts, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering community unity.

Mayor Tom Dailey, Mayor Laurence Herman, Former Mayor Gopal Lalmalani, and Oakbrook Trustee Dr. Suresh Reddy honored leadership and association’s commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement.

In her remarks, President Gulabani highlighted SAMC’s pivotal role in promoting Sindhi culture and fostering collaborative endeavors for social and charitable causes. The event served as a testament to the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the Sindhi community in Chicago and beyond.

Cheti Chand marks the beginning of the Sindhi New Year and holds immense cultural significance. Observed on the second day of the Chaitra month, it commemorates the birth anniversary of the patron saint of Sindhis, Jhulelal. The festival is a vibrant showcase of Sindhi culture, characterized by traditional rituals, prayers, and festivities. People come together to offer prayers to Jhulelal. They seek his blessings for prosperity and happiness in the coming year. Cheti Chand is also a time for community gatherings. Families and friends exchange greetings, share traditional delicacies, and partake in joyous celebrations.
