The Indian American Medical Association, Illinois (IAMA-IL) celebrated its 44th anniversary with a spectacular fundraising gala on December 7, 2024, at the Matrix Club in Naperville. The event combined elegance and purpose, featuring a cocktail reception, vendor expo, awards ceremony, dinner, and breathtaking musical performances.
Dr. Radhika Chimata, President of IAMA-IL, led the evening with a vision for the future. The gala was graced by notable speakers, including Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh. Dr. Chimata outlined her objectives for 2025, emphasizing impactful fundraising, a mentor database for medical trainees, and increased membership among second- and third-generation Americans.
Honoring Excellence
The evening highlighted the accomplishments of distinguished physicians. Dr. Ashok Fulambarker received the Distinguished Physician Award, while Dr. Samir Shah was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Archana Chatterjee earned the Dr. Usha Rani Nimmagadda Woman Physician Leadership Award. Additionally, Drs. Rajeev Kumar, Terence Chiramel, and Utpal Parekh were recognized for their invaluable contributions to IAMA-IL and the community.
Inspiring Discussions
Advocate Health CEO Dia Nichols delivered an insightful keynote address. He later joined a fireside chat with Dr. Chimata, Dr. Sreenivas Reddy, and Advocate Health’s Shruti Nathan. The panel discussed pressing issues such as physician reimbursement challenges, offering a platform for meaningful dialogue.
A Night of Culture and Entertainment
The Ghungroo Bollywood dance troupe dazzled attendees with their vibrant performances. Led by director Sridevi Pandalai, their artistry was complemented by the exceptional audio-visual presentations of Biju Zacharia. Emcee Shana Mohan tied the evening together seamlessly.
Dr. Chimata added a personal touch with an unplugged musical performance alongside guitarist Vikas Deo. The evening concluded with an electrifying concert by Orchestra Saregama that had everyone on their feet.
Looking Ahead
The event also marked a transition in leadership. Dr. Dilip Shah was warmly welcomed as the incoming IAMA-IL President for 2025. The new executive committee pledged to carry forward the organization’s legacy.
