Nepal

The US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland has said that the US government will invest over $1 billion in Nepal over the next five years.

Organizing a press conference at Patan Durbar Square on Monday, Under Secretary Nuland said the US would invest in green energy, electrification, and businesses led by women and under-represented communities.

The Under Secretary also said that the US investment would also focus on areas such as health, agriculture, and tourism.

Describing her meeting with Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal, UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Foreign Affairs Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal as productive, Under Secretary Nuland said that they discussed finalizing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) projects and the transitional justice process, and making the environment conducive for bringing in US investment.

Nuland said that they also discussed fighting corruption and making democracy more transparent.

Answering the queries of the journalists, Under Secretary Nuland said the US’s support of Nepal was aimed at bringing prosperity to the Nepali people and transparency to its democracy and it would work in unison with Nepal’s neighbours for achieving its goal.
