Vijay Sethupathi to Present at 54th International Emmy Awards, Bringing Tamil Cinema to the Global Spotlight: Indian cinema is set to receive another international spotlight as acclaimed Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi prepares to present an award at the 54th International Emmy Awards, scheduled for November 23, 2026, in Manhattan, New York. The acclaimed Tamil actor will join the presenter lineup at the November 23 ceremony in New York, while India’s television industry celebrates two major nominations, including Real Kashmir Football Club and Vir Das: Fool Volume.

The announcement marks an important moment for Tamil cinema and India’s wider entertainment industry, highlighting the growing international recognition of regional Indian actors and creative talent.

According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter India, Sethupathi’s participation was facilitated by producer Kavita Gupta, a board member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS), the organization behind the International Emmy Awards.

Gupta has previously played an instrumental role in bringing Indian talent to the prestigious international platform, including comedian Vir Das, who became the first Indian host of the International Emmy Awards in 2024.

A Global Platform for Indian Talent

Sethupathi’s selection reflects the growing international appeal of Indian entertainment beyond traditional Bollywood boundaries.

While some initial reports described him as the first Indian presenter at the International Emmys, that distinction has been challenged by actress Prerna Wanvari, who highlighted that Aashka Goradia and Simone Singh had previously presented awards at the ceremony in 2009 and 2010. Wanvari also referred to her own presenting appearance in 2012.

Separately, Priyanka Chopra presented at the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles in 2016.

Nevertheless, Sethupathi’s appearance represents another significant opportunity for Indian cinema to strengthen its presence at one of the world’s prominent international television award ceremonies.

India Secures Two International Emmy Nominations

India’s participation at the 54th International Emmy Awards extends beyond Sethupathi’s presenting role, with two Indian productions competing for international recognition.

Real Kashmir Football Club, the SonyLIV sports drama directed by Mahesh Mathai and Rajesh Mapuskar, has received a nomination in the Best Drama Series category. Featuring Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Kaul, the series brings a compelling Indian football story to the international television stage.

Meanwhile, comedian Vir Das’s Netflix special Vir Das: Fool Volume has earned a nomination in the Best Comedy Series category, further strengthening India’s representation in global entertainment.

These nominations demonstrate the increasing international visibility of Indian storytelling across drama, sports and comedy.

From Tamil Cinema to International Recognition

Vijay Sethupathi has established himself as one of Tamil cinema’s most versatile performers, earning recognition for his unconventional roles, distinctive acting style and willingness to explore diverse characters.

His filmography includes acclaimed productions such as Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Super Deluxe. He has also expanded his presence across Indian film industries through appearances in Petta, Master, Vikram and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.

His 2024 Tamil thriller Maharaja achieved significant international attention, particularly following its successful theatrical and streaming performance in China. The film has also attracted interest from Hollywood, with its producer confirming that a Hollywood agency acquired remake rights and was developing the adaptation.

Sethupathi was recently seen in Baththa and is expected to appear in filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s upcoming romantic drama Inji Vellam, alongside Sai Pallavi.
