The UAE has introduced a new work permit aimed at facilitating registered teachers, employed professionals, and students aged 15 to 18 in offering private lessons. This initiative, launched jointly by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, is expected to streamline private tutoring and curb illegal practices.

Work Permit for Teachers

The new work permit, valid for two years and free of charge, allows teachers to provide lessons from their homes, ensuring a controlled and legal framework for private tutoring. Mohammad Al Mualla, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education, emphasized the permit’s role in regulating private lessons, stating, “The new work permit was introduced to provide private lessons, which will control illegal practices when hiring private teachers.”

Applications for the work permit can be submitted through MoHRE’s digital platforms under the private teacher WORK PERMIT section. Teaching without this permit is illegal and can result in penalties.

Eligibility for the New Work Permit

The new work permit is available to:

  • Registered teachers
  • Employed professionals
  • Students aged 15 to 18

These individuals can apply for the permit via the MoHRE digital platform, ensuring a straightforward and efficient process.

Validity and Cost of the New Work Permit

The permit is free of charge and remains valid for two years. Those who receive the permit can offer private lessons from their homes, generating direct income. Additionally, they must provide a ‘code of conduct’ approved by the ministry.

Processing Time and Required Documents

The processing time for the new work permit is approximately five days. Applicants need to submit the following documents:

  • Valid UAE passport or Emirates ID
  • Signed declaration
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer
  • Certificate of Good Conduct
  • NOC from a guardian
  • A photo with a white background
