Hero Officer Didarul Islam Among Four Killed in NYC Skyscraper Shooting: In a tragic turn of events that shook New York City, Police Officer Didarul Islam, 36, was among four people killed in a deadly shooting at an office building on Park Avenue. The attack unfolded in one of Manhattan’s busiest districts, leaving behind grief, outrage, and a city mourning the loss of one of its finest.

Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi-American officer with the NYPD’s 47th District in the Bronx, was providing security at the site when he was gunned down while shielding others from harm. Officials confirmed that he was married, father to two children, and expecting a third with his pregnant wife.

Mayor Eric Adams praised Officer Islam as “a true-blue New Yorker,” highlighting his dedication to duty and unwavering spirit. “He was doing what he does best… saving lives. He was protecting New Yorkers,” the mayor said during a press conference.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, visibly moved, echoed the mayor’s sentiments. “He was doing the job we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” she stated. “He died as he lived — a hero.”

The NYPD’s official X (formerly Twitter) account released a heartfelt statement:

“Police Officer Didarul Islam represented the very best of our department. He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today. We will forever honor his legacy.”

Islam had joined the NYPD over three years ago, transitioning from his previous role as a school security guard. His journey, from a young Bangladeshi immigrant to a New York police officer, inspired many in his Bronx community, where he remained an active mosque member and mentor to local youth.

“He wanted to leave behind a legacy for his family, something they could be proud of,” said Marjanul Karim, one of Islam’s mentees. “He risked everything for the job he loved.”

Following the shooting, members of the Bangladeshi-American community gathered at Islam’s home, offering prayers and support to the grieving family. Their presence was a testament to the deep bonds he nurtured through service, both in uniform and in his personal life.

Mayor Adams, who met Islam’s parents and pregnant wife, expressed his deep sorrow. “This was his father’s only son,” he said quietly. “I think about Jordan, my child, and it is unimaginable to experience a loss of this magnitude.”

As investigations continue into the motive and circumstances behind the Park Avenue shooting, New Yorkers unite in remembrance of Officer Didarul Islam — a devoted father, community leader, and protector of the city he called home.
