Saudi Arabia Eases Family Visa Process for Skilled Expatriates, Allowing Families to Apply Alongside Work Permits: Saudi Arabia has introduced a measure allowing eligible skilled expatriate workers to arrange entry visas for their family members while their own employment visa procedures are being completed, making relocation to the Kingdom potentially easier for international professionals.
Announced by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior on October 6, 2026, the initiative allows eligible family members to obtain entry visas alongside the completion of the worker’s employment visa process, subject to the required application procedures and conditions.
Spouses and Eligible Children Covered
Under the new arrangement, eligible dependants include the worker’s spouse, sons under the age of 25 and unmarried daughters.
Previously, expatriate workers generally had to complete their own employment visa procedures before beginning the process of bringing eligible family members to Saudi Arabia. The revised approach allows the two processes to proceed concurrently, potentially reducing waiting times for families relocating to the country.
Residence Permits Still Required
The Ministry of Interior clarified that family members must complete the applicable residence permit procedures after arriving in Saudi Arabia. The new measure facilitates the timing of entry visa applications but does not remove existing legal requirements or guarantee automatic approval.
Applicants must meet the relevant eligibility conditions and follow the procedures established by Saudi authorities.
Coordinated Government Initiative
The measure was introduced in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. It forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to improve the quality of life for residents and streamline procedures for skilled expatriate workers.
Saudi Arabia attracts international professionals across sectors including technology, healthcare, engineering, finance and business. For eligible workers moving to the Kingdom, the change could make it easier to coordinate employment and family relocation.
Benefits for International Professionals
The updated process may be particularly helpful to expatriates who want their families to join them without a prolonged separation while employment documentation is being processed.
By allowing eligible family-entry applications to proceed alongside the worker’s employment visa procedures, Saudi Arabia is seeking to simplify an important part of the relocation process.
However, workers and their families should confirm the latest eligibility requirements and documentation procedures with the relevant Saudi authorities before making travel arrangements.
The change represents a procedural adjustment to family entry visas, with the aim of making relocation more convenient for skilled expatriates while retaining the Kingdom’s existing residency and immigration requirements.
