18-Year-Old Indian-Origin Student Wins $1 Million in Dubai Duty Free Draw: In a remarkable stroke of luck, 18-year-old Wayne Nash D’Souza, an Indian-origin aerospace engineering student, won $1 million in the prestigious Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire raffle. The life-changing moment came as Wayne, who was departing Dubai for the U.S. to begin his studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, purchased the winning ticket at Dubai Airport on July 26.

Born in Dubai to Indian parents from Mumbai, Wayne has been a frequent flyer since the age of five. His family, loyal participants in the Dubai Duty Free promotions for over three decades, had made ticket-buying a travel ritual.

“I think my parents buy tickets regularly when they travel,” Wayne told Khaleej Times. According to Gulf News, Wayne is now the 255th Indian national to win $1 million since the launch of the draw in 1999.

Notably, Wayne plans to invest his winnings in education—both for himself and his sister—demonstrating foresight and gratitude for the opportunity.

This win highlights the enduring connection between the Indian diaspora and Dubai’s iconic raffle. It also underscores the rising success stories of Indian youth globally.
