The prestigious Ekushey Padak, the nation’s second-highest civilian award, will be conferred upon 21 individuals this year in recognition of their exceptional contributions across various fields.
The Cultural Affairs Ministry made the announcement on Tuesday (Feb 13) through a circular signed by deputy secretary Irene Farzana, as reported by BSS.
According to the release, this year’s recipients span a diverse range of categories. Two individuals have been honored for their roles in the Language Movement, while one has been recognized for their efforts in documenting the Liberation War. Additionally, 11 individuals have been acknowledged for their achievements in Shilpakala, encompassing acting, music, recitation, arts, and painting. Two recipients are being awarded for their contributions to social service, one for education, and four for language and literature.
Among the notable awardees are Md Ashrafuddin Ahmed and the late freedom fighter Hatem Ali Mia, recognized for their roles in the Language Movement. In the field of Shilpakala, notable recipients include the late Jalal Uddin Kha, Kolyani Ghose, Bidit Lal Das, the late Andrew Kishore, and Shuvra Deb. Other awardees include Shibli Mohammad, Dolly Zahur, MA Alamgir, Khan Md Mustafa Walid (Shimul Mustafa), Rupa Chakrabarti, Shajahan Ahmed Bikash, Kawsar Chowdhury, Md Ziaul Huque, Rafique Ahmed, Muhammad Samad, Lutfur Rahman Riton, Minar Mansur, and the late Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah. Additionally, Professor Dr. Venerable Jinabodhi has been honored for his contributions to education.
The Ekushey Padak, bestowed upon individuals for their outstanding achievements and contributions to society, remains a symbol of national recognition and honor.
