Culture Connects Us All: Victoria’s Largest Celebration of Diversity Returns: The vibrant spirit of multiculturalism is once again set to take center stage as Victoria prepares for its largest annual celebration of diversity. The official countdown to Cultural Diversity Week 2026 has begun, following a colorful launch event in East Melbourne that brought together community leaders, artists, and multicultural advocates.

The launch was led by Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs Iwan Walters alongside Victorian Multicultural Commission Chair Vivienne Nguyen. Held at the Simpson Street tram siding, the event offered a preview of the rich cultural programming to come, featuring music, dance, and storytelling performances reflective of Victoria’s diverse communities.

Vivienne Nguyen said “Culture is a living, breathing source of joy and purpose. We invite every Victorian to enter someone else’s world this week, whether through a conversation on a tram or a meal at the festival.”

Running from March 21 to 29, Cultural Diversity Week 2026 embraces the theme “Culture connects us all,” highlighting the power of shared experiences to foster unity and belonging across communities.

A standout feature of the launch was a specially decorated E-Class tram, now traveling across Melbourne’s tram network. Developed in partnership with Yarra Trams and the Department of Transport and Planning, the tram symbolizes the shared journeys and cultural richness of Victorians from all walks of life.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt “Cultural Diversity Week is an opportunity for all Victorians to celebrate our collective heritage and the diversity that makes Victoria such a vibrant and dynamic state. It is a time to acknowledge that our diversity is our greatest strength.”

The week-long celebration, presented by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, will culminate in the highly anticipated Victorian Multicultural Festival at Grazeland from March 27 to 29. The three-day festival promises an immersive experience of global cuisines, live performances, and community storytelling.

Victorians are encouraged to actively participate by hosting or attending events, sharing their cultural stories through digital campaigns, or joining local celebrations happening across the state.

Echoing this sentiment, Iwan Walters noted that this year’s theme underscores the importance of storytelling and shared experiences in building understanding. “I encourage all Victorians to get on board and celebrate Cultural Diversity Week and the many cultures that make up our vibrant state,” he said.

Recognized as Victoria’s premier multicultural celebration, Cultural Diversity Week coincides with global observances such as Harmony Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, reinforcing its message of inclusion and unity.

With a packed statewide program and strong community participation expected, Cultural Diversity Week 2026 promises to once again celebrate the stories, traditions, and connections that define modern Victoria.
