DesiBallers Marks 15 Years with South Asian Heritage Month Celebration at Watford FC: Watford FC’s Vicarage Road stadium came alive last week as a grassroots football initiative, DesiBallers, celebrated its 15th anniversary during South Asian Heritage Month 2025. The event, founded by Zohaib Rashid, highlighted the growing influence and representation of British South Asians in football.

Marking the milestone, Watford MP Matt Turmaine joined the celebration, praising DesiBallers for its dedication to identity, representation, and opportunity in sport. “The goal of events like this is more than just football,” he said. “They are about identity representation and opportunity. I support DesiBallers and everyone working to break down barriers in sport.”

In addition, Watford FC’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead, Dave Messenger, expressed excitement about hosting the event, stating the club was “excited to welcome everyone.”

The evening also featured Alan Lau of FA Education in Hertfordshire, who co-organised the event alongside Rashid. Community leaders, councillors, and players gathered for group photos with Rashid, Lau, MP Turmaine, and Councillor Asif Khan.

Asif Khan, councillor for the Leggatts Ward, called the event “a brilliant evening celebrating community, culture, and contribution,” stressing that “representation in sport matters and DesiBallers continue to inspire the next generation of players and leaders.”

The celebration reinforced DesiBallers’ mission — to create opportunities for South Asians in football while fostering community pride and inspiring young athletes to dream bigger.
