Dr. Prabhas V. Moghe Officially Named UT Dallas President: May 30, 2025, the University of Texas System Board of Regents officially named Dr. Prabhas V. Moghe as the next president of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Following a unanimous vote, the regents confirmed Moghe will assume the role effective August 2, 2025, succeeding Dr. Richard Benson, who plans to return to the faculty after a transformative nine-year tenure.
The appointment follows Moghe’s selection as the sole finalist, capping a nationwide search for an exceptional leader. According to UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife, “Dr. Moghe has a distinguished background as an educator, researcher, and administrator. We’re delighted he will guide UT Dallas as it continues its great trajectory.” He also expressed gratitude to the presidential search advisory committee and Chancellor JB Milliken for their efforts in selecting a forward-looking candidate.
Currently serving as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (EVPAA) at Rutgers University, Moghe brings an impressive portfolio of leadership. Under his direction, Rutgers experienced a 40% increase in research funding, growing from $689 million to nearly $1 billion. Additionally, Rutgers rose 22 spots in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, now standing at 15th among public universities.
Moghe has led transformative initiatives like the Roadmaps for Collective Academic Excellence, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, health, public policy, and business. He also serves as a senior representative to the Association of American Universities and the Big Ten Academic Alliance Board of Directors.
His academic journey began in India, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Bombay. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Bioengineering) from the University of Minnesota and completed postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. Moghe joined the Rutgers faculty in 1995 and has held various senior academic roles, including Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at Rutgers–New Brunswick.
UT System Chancellor JB Milliken noted, “Dr. Moghe’s record of strengthening educational pathways and propelling research forward reflects UT Dallas’s strengths and aspirations. He deeply appreciates the university’s mission and rapid ascent among the nation’s top research institutions.”
