Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community UK Celebrates Nepali New Year 2083 with Grand Cultural Event in London: The Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community UK (GRNC UK) celebrated Nepali New Year 2083 with a vibrant cultural event and community gathering at Empire Hall in Aldershot, drawing hundreds of attendees from across the United Kingdom.

The event was held under the leadership of GRNC UK President Lila Selling Mabo, with Calum Stewart attending as the chief guest. The celebration highlighted the unity, diversity, and cultural richness of the Nepali diaspora in the UK.

Distinguished guests included UK Member of Parliament Alex Baker, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in London Sanjok Rai, Rushmoor Council Leader Gareth Williams, Deputy Leader Sophie Potter, County Councillor Alex Crawford, and Vishwas Deep Tigela, among other prominent figures.

Representatives from numerous Nepali organizations across the UK also attended, including NRNA UK, Tamu Dhee UK, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung UK, Magar Association UK, Tamang Society UK, Sherpa Association UK, and several regional and ethnic associations, reflecting the diversity of Nepal’s communities.

During the event, members who achieved academic excellence and made notable contributions in various fields were honored by President Mabo and Mayor Stewart. Speakers including MP Alex Baker, diplomat Sanjok Rai, Mayor Calum Stewart, and founding president Raj Limbu extended New Year शुभकामना (best wishes), emphasizing unity, cultural preservation, and community growth.

A special segment recognized business leaders who contributed sponsorships exceeding £300. More than 100 entrepreneurs and business owners were brought together through the efforts of Dilras Gurung, business coordinator and proprietor of Gurkha Travels.

Traditional dances representing Nepal’s rich heritage were also performed, including the Chyabrung dance of the Limbu community and the Sakela dance of the Rai community, along with other ethnic cultural presentations by local artists.

The formal session was hosted by General Secretary Lt Sunil Rana Magar, while Vice President and program coordinator Uttar Bahadur Gurung delivered the welcome address. The cultural segment was emceed by former president Rohit Gurung and media co-coordinator Goma Rana Magar.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from President Lila Selling Mabo, who expressed appreciation to all attendees, sponsors, and volunteers for making the celebration a grand success. Distinguished Gurkha veterans, including Major Vivek Jung Shah and Major Chakra Khatri, were also present.

A raffle draw added excitement to the celebration, with the first prize won by the QOGLR table, which was generously donated back to the organization in support of its initiatives.

The event not only marked the beginning of Nepali New Year 2083 but also reinforced a strong sense of community, cultural pride, and unity among Nepalis living in the United Kingdom.
