PM Modi is only the fourth foreign leader in history to receive this prestigious award. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, hailed the achievement, calling it “another feather in the cap for India.” He emphasized that the award acknowledges PM Modi’s statesmanship, service to the global community, and significant contributions to enhancing India-Guyana relations.
President Irfaan Ali also spoke about the importance of technology, innovation, and digitization in bridging global gaps. He stressed that advancements should aim to reduce inequality and poverty, bringing nations closer together. “India has been championing new technology innovation, and PM Modi reminded us in CARICOM that you are a member of this CARICOM family,” the Guyanese president said.

During his address, PM Modi highlighted the commonalities between India and Guyana, noting that both nations are blessed with abundant natural resources, including rivers that form an integral part of their cultural identities. He cited India’s Ganga, Yamuna, and Brahmaputra rivers as parallel examples to Guyana’s iconic waterways, which are integral to the cultural heritage of its people.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India is ready to work closely with Guyana to further strengthen their bilateral relations. “Our cooperation as two democracies is vital, not just for our bilateral relations but also for the entire Global South,” he affirmed.
