PM Modi Urges Democratization of Technology in G7 Address. Prime Minister Modi’s address at the G7 summit called for the democratization of technology and a collaborative approach to AI and energy, aiming for a future that is inclusive and sustainable.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an end to the monopoly in technology during his address at the G7 summit in Italy’s Apulia region on Friday. He emphasized the need for technology to become more creative to build an inclusive society. “We must make technology creative, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay the foundation of an inclusive society. India is striving for a better future through this human-centric approach,” Modi stated.

Highlighting Global South Concerns

Addressing the Outreach session, Modi highlighted the challenges faced by countries in the Global South due to global uncertainties and tensions. He reiterated India’s commitment to bringing the priorities and concerns of these nations to the world stage. “In these efforts, we have given high priority to Africa. We are proud that the G-20, under the chairmanship of India, made the African Union a permanent member,” he said. Modi added that India has consistently contributed to the economic and social development, stability, and security of African nations and will continue to do so.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence

Modi placed significant emphasis on ending the monopoly in technology, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). He noted that India is among the first countries to develop a national strategy on AI and has launched the AI Mission this year with the mantra ‘AI for All.’ “As a founding member and lead chair of the global partnership for AI, we are promoting cooperation among all countries,” he said. Modi also stressed the importance of international governance in AI, a topic highlighted at the G-20 summit hosted by India last year. “In the future too, we will continue to work together with all countries to make AI transparent, fair, secure, accessible, and responsible,” he affirmed.

Principles for Energy Approach

The Prime Minister also discussed India’s energy strategy, based on the principles of availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. He underscored India’s commitment to achieving the target of Net Zero by 2070. “We are making every possible effort to fulfill our commitment. Together we should make efforts to make the coming time a green era,” Modi urged.
