Pushpa 2: The Rule Opens Slowly in Japan Despite Global Blockbuster Status: According to Sacnik, Allu Arjun’s all-time blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule has begun its Japanese box office journey on an unexpectedly subdued note. Although the Sukumar-directed action drama released in Japan on January 16, it failed to build strong opening-day momentum, despite extensive promotions and the actor’s high-profile presence in Tokyo ahead of release.

On its first day, Pushpa 2 reportedly recorded just 886 admissions, a modest figure that fell well short of industry expectations for a film of its scale and reputation. In comparison, Indian films that previously made an impact in Japan posted significantly stronger openings. RRR clocked around 8,230 admissions, Saaho drew 6,510, and Kalki 2898 AD attracted approximately 3,700 admissions on their respective opening days. As a result, Pushpa 2 did not enter the list of top-performing Indian films in Japan by opening-day footfalls, signaling limited initial reach among local audiences.

Moreover, the muted response has surprised trade observers, especially because Japanese interest in Indian cinema has grown steadily in recent years. Following the phenomenal success of RRR, expectations were high that Pushpa 2 would capitalize on this momentum. However, while awareness around the film was strong, early numbers suggest that curiosity did not immediately translate into ticket sales.

Nevertheless, Pushpa 2: The Rule still has time to recover. Historically, films in Japan often enjoy long theatrical runs if they strike a chord with local viewers. Therefore, industry watchers will closely track whether word of mouth and repeat viewings help the film gain traction in the coming days.

Importantly, the Japanese opening represents only a small fraction of the film’s global performance. On the worldwide stage, Pushpa 2 has already secured its legacy as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of all time. The film has grossed over ₹1,740 crore globally during its original run, placing it as the third highest-grossing Indian film ever.

In conclusion, while Pushpa 2 has stumbled at the Japanese box office initially, its overall global success remains unquestionable. The coming weeks will determine whether the film can replicate its worldwide triumph by building a steady and sustained run in Japan.
