Rahul Gandhi to Visit Dallas and Washington DC in September. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian National Congress and a prominent opposition figure in India, is set to visit the United States from September 8 to 10. This visit marks his first trip to the US since becoming the leader of the opposition. The announcement was made by Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, who shared details of Gandhi’s itinerary and the events planned during his brief visit.
Pitroda emphasized the widespread interest in Gandhi’s visit, stating, “Since Rahul Gandhi has become the leader of the opposition, I, as chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, which has a presence in 32 countries, have been bombarded with requests from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academicians, businesspersons, leaders, international media, and many others, for interactions with him.”
Gandhi’s first stop will be in Dallas on September 8, where he will engage with students and faculty at the University of Texas. Additionally, he will participate in a large community gathering, meet with technocrats, and dine with local leaders. Pitroda noted, “We will have interactions with the University of Texas, students, academic institutions, and community people. We will meet some technocrats, and then we will have dinner with leaders from the Dallas area.”
Following his engagements in Dallas, Gandhi will travel to Washington DC on September 9 and 10. In the capital, he is scheduled to meet with think tanks, members of the National Press Club, and various other influential groups. Pitroda highlighted the interest in Gandhi’s visit, particularly in states governed by the Congress party in India, stating, “There are a lot of events planned with a variety of people because we find that people also have a lot of interest in the states we run with a Congress government.”
Expressing optimism about the upcoming trip, Pitroda added, “We look forward to a very successful visit.”
Rahul Gandhi, who celebrated his 54th birthday in June, has a long-standing political career. He is currently serving his fifth term as a Member of Parliament, representing the Rae Bareli constituency, a seat previously held by his mother, Sonia Gandhi. Although he won two constituencies in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi resigned from the Wayanad seat in Kerala, allowing his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to contest the upcoming by-election. Gandhi first entered the Lok Sabha in 2004 after winning the Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh.
This visit to the US underscores his continued engagement with the global Indian community and reflects the growing interest in his leadership and the Congress party’s policies.
