The 80th Golden Globes kickstarted Hollywood’s award season with a ceremony in Los Angeles hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. It was also competing for Best Non-English Language Film which was won by Argentina, 1985. RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan as real-life freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitaramaraju, is the first Indian film to win a Golden Globe, among Hollywood’s most prestigious. Director Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan attended the Golden Globes with wives Lakshmi Pranathi and Upasana Kamineni.
Rajamouli’s older cousin and regular collaborator M. M. Keeravani composed the score and the soundtrack of the film.The audio rights of the film were purchased for ₹25 crore (US$3.1 million), by Lahari Music and T-Series, which was a record price for a South Indian album. Lahari Music distributed the soundtrack in all of the South Indian languages, whereas the Hindi soundtrack is marketed by T-Series.
The soundtrack consists of seven original songs composed by Keeravani, namely, “Dosti” (transl. Frendship), “Naatu Naatu” (transl. Dance Dance) “Janani” (transl. Mother), “Komuram Bheemudo“, “Raamam Raaghavam“, “Etthara Jenda“, and “Komma Uyyala“. Lyrics are written by Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry, Chandrabose, Keeravaani, Suddala Ashok Teja, K. Shiva Dutta and Ramajogayya Sastry
