Celebrating British Bangladeshi Excellence: The 15th Edition of ‘Who’s Who’The British Bangladeshi community continues to carve a remarkable niche in multicultural Britain, making substantial contributions across various fields. This was celebrated at the 15th edition of the British Bangladeshi Who’s Who publication and award ceremony, held at the prestigious Meridian Grand Hall in London on November 12.

Colonel James Sunderland, former MP of Bracknell and a Conservative Party stalwart, graced the event as the chief guest. In his speech, he commended the initiative, saying, “The British Bangladeshi Who’s Who honors individuals excelling in their respective professions, showcasing the incredible achievements of this vibrant community.”

Recognizing Achievements

This year’s publication highlights 273 success stories, including contributions from the third generation of British Bangladeshis. These additions underline the community’s continuous growth and innovation. Eight exceptional individuals were honored for their professional excellence:

  • Jalal Rajan Uddin (Politics and Social Service)
  • Abdul Haque (Technology and Media)
  • Sabbir Jamee (Business and Social Service)
  • Yasmin Harun BEM (Sports and Charity)
  • Alaur Rahman (Music)
  • Ashiqur Rahman (Tourism)
  • Karim Miah Shamim (Catering and Property)
  • Shams Uddin Khan (Education)

The awardees expressed their pride, with many stating that this recognition motivates them to continue contributing to both British and Bangladeshi communities. “This award is a symbol of honor and pride, acknowledging our work for the community,” they said.

Driving Inspiration and Defending Migration

Suhana Ahmed, Executive Editor of British Bangladeshi Who’s Who, emphasized the importance of the publication. “It serves a dual purpose: providing inspirational role models for the community, especially the youth, and showcasing the value of migration by highlighting the remarkable contributions of British Bangladeshis,” she noted.

Editor Abdul Karim Gani reiterated how the publication has become a unique documentation of the community’s milestones. “It’s a treasure trove for current and future generations, reflecting our journey and accomplishments,” he said.

A Star-Studded Evening

The gala event, hosted by Barristers Nadia Ali and Anwar Miah, was attended by several dignitaries, including the mayors of Harrow, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Camden, Burnley, and Barking and Dagenham, alongside prominent community leaders. The evening featured captivating cultural performances by artists Tanzina Ruma, Shiblu Rahman, and Jayita Chowdhury, leaving the audience spellbound.

Partners and Sponsors

Organized in collaboration with Meridian Grand and Work Permit Cloud, the event was managed by Pearl Advertising and supported by numerous businesses, including Channel S TV, Euro Foods Group, and Square Mile Insurance Services. The official charity partner was Al Mustafa Welfare Trust.

This year’s event exemplified how the British Bangladeshi community continues to thrive, setting benchmarks for success and reinforcing the narrative of unity and multiculturalism in the UK.

As Colonel Sunderland aptly concluded, “The achievements of British Bangladeshis are a testament to their resilience, creativity, and dedication.”
