Italy Welcomes Digital Nomads with New Visa Initiative? Here’s how you can make it a reality with the newly-launched digital nomad visa.
Italy, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and cultural heritage, is now opening its doors to digital nomads. Digital nomads seeking to live and work remotely in the country can apply for the visa.
The Italian government recently introduced a digital nomad visa, signed into law on March 28, 2022, and effective as of April 4. To accommodate the increasing trend of remote work and provide opportunities for highly skilled individuals from non-EU states.
This initiative aims to attract talented professionals who can contribute to Italy’s economy while enjoying its vibrant lifestyle and rich history.
Eligible applicants must meet specific criteria, including having an annual income of at least three times the minimum level required for exemption from healthcare costs in Italy, approximately €28,000 annually, and possessing health insurance covering their entire stay.
Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a history of working remotely for at least six months, provide proof of suitable accommodation, and submit a declaration signed by their employer to a valid diplomatic-consular office.
The digital nomad visa, valid for one year initially and renewable annually, offers individuals the opportunity to live and work in Italy while embracing the country’s diverse culture and scenic beauty.
Tax compliance in Italy is mandatory for visa applicants, requiring them to consult with Italian tax experts to understand their tax obligations.
Applications for the digital nomad visa are now open, with interested individuals required to schedule an in-person appointment at an Italian consulate and provide documentation, including a valid passport, proof of employment, income, health insurance, accommodation in Italy, and a criminal record certificate.
Upon approval, applicants have eight days from their arrival in Italy to apply for a residence permit, enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the Italian way of life.
In addition to the digital nomad visa, Italy offers other visa options under the ‘decreto flussi’ (foreign worker quota), providing opportunities for remote workers to live and work in the country.
With its new visa initiative, Italy is poised to become a desirable destination for digital nomads seeking a balance between work and leisure in a picturesque Mediterranean setting.
