Publication of “Ajker Shatabdi” Special Issue on Dr. Ansar Ahmed Ullah and Poetry Anthology Edited by Muhammed Shahed Rahman: A literary celebration took place in East London to mark the publication of two notable works — the Ajker Shatabdi Special Issue on Dr. Ansar Ahmed Ullah and the poetry anthology Before Writing Poems in Britain (Bilete Kobita Likar Agei), both edited by Muhammed Shahed Rahman. The event, titled “Launch and Conversation with Authors and Well-wishers,” brought together a vibrant audience of writers, poets, academics, and community leaders.

The programme was held at the Pur Chai Seminar Hall, organised by the UK Bangla Reporters Unity and supported by the British Bangla Progressive Writers Association. The seminar room was transformed into a cultural hub, uniting the British Bangladeshi literary community.

Councillor Muhammad Islam, Deputy Mayor of the London Borough of Croydon, attended as the Chief Guest, while Professor Md. Shajidur Rahman, President of the UK Bangla Reporters Unity and Joint Convener of the British Bangla Progressive Writers Association, presided over the event. The editor, Muhammed Shahed Rahman, delivered the welcome address, and Poet Mizanur Rahman Miru conducted the session.

Throughout the evening, prominent figures — including actor Shadhin Khasru, journalist Matiar Chowdhury, poets Hamid Mohammed, Dilu Naser, Mashuk Ibne Anis, and Mujibul Haque Moni, and community activist Abdul Malik Khokon — shared their reflections. Many praised Dr. Ansar Ahmed Ullah for his lifelong dedication to research, journalism, and creative writing, particularly highlighting his recent Ph.D. on racism and his contribution to British Bangladeshi heritage.

The event also featured poetry recitations by Poet Imdadun Khanam, Asma Matin, Faysal Ayyub, and recitation artist Fahmida Deepa, adding a lyrical touch to the literary gathering.

Speakers emphasized that literature and human history have always evolved together. They noted that even in the diaspora, Bangladeshi writers in Britain continue to express their emotions, struggles, and heritage through poetry. The anthology Before Writing Poems in Britain, featuring poems by seventeen poets, reflects this enduring connection between identity and creativity.

The special issue of Ajker Shatabdi, edited by Muhammed Shahed Rahman, includes contributions from notable academics and writers such as Dr. Sam Halvorsen, Professor Alastair Owens, Professor John Eade, Dr. Chris Tang, Jalal Rajonuddin, Dr. Sean Carey, and others. The poetry anthology, published by Oxford Bangla Publications under Sanglap Media Group, features poems by Nuruzzaman Moni, Hamid Mohammed, Mujibul Haque Moni, Dilu Naser, Lutfur Rahman Kamali, Faisal Ayub, Mizanur Rahman Miru, and others, with cover art designed by Dhruba Esh.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Ansar Ahmed Ullah thanked the editor, organisers, and attendees, reflecting on his long journey of cultural and academic engagement since the 1980s. He emphasised the importance of documenting the experiences of British Bangladeshis through literature, art, and research.

The evening concluded with warm appreciation for Muhammed Shahed Rahman and his editorial team for their commitment to promoting diaspora literature and preserving the creative legacy of the Bangladeshi community in the UK.
