A Riveting Existential Drama

Directed by London-based BIFA Springboard Fellow Anshul Tiwari, “Bayaar” explores profound themes of life, death, and redemption. Inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre’s seminal play Huis Clos (No Exit), the film follows three estranged friends stranded in a remote Himalayan mountain lodge.

Their broken-down jeep forces them into a chilling retreat. Consequently, the lodge becomes a symbolic threshold where each character must confront personal sins, illusions, and unresolved conflicts before moving forward. Shot entirely in the majestic landscape of Himachal Pradesh, the 90-minute film features powerful performances by Vinay Pathak, Shalmalee Vaidya, and Rachita Arke.

A Growing Connection with Australia

“Bayaar” already holds a meaningful presence in Australia. It was selected as an Official Entry at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM360), reinforcing its relevance to both Australian cinephiles and the Indian diaspora.

Furthermore, Director Anshul Tiwari’s earlier film, “Before Life After Death”, premiered at the Singapore International Film Festival and was later acquired by Netflix for streaming across Asia Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand. This success highlights Tiwari’s growing influence in the region.

A Global Indie Production

The film’s international footprint strengthens its appeal. Although Singapore is the country of origin, “Bayaar” brings together creative partners from India and the United Kingdom. Much of its post-production — including sound design, editing, music, and color grading — took place in London, Brighton, and Glasgow. As a result, the film blends a global cinematic aesthetic with an emotionally grounded Indian narrative.

Director’s Vision

“From dust we come, unto dust we go. We are travellers in the wind,” says Director Anshul Tiwari. He describes the film as an exploration of an alternate reality, one that examines life through the lens of death. Moreover, he challenges the traditional fear of mortality by portraying death as a moment of acceptance, clarity, and forgiveness.

Australian Premiere

The Australian Premiere of BAYAAR (Dust and the Wind) will be held during the first week of December 2025 as part of IFFM360 in Melbourne.
