‘Hanuman Ansh’, India’s Most Profitable Film Ever, Set to Break New Records as It Reaches International Audiences on September 11: Small-budget devotional drama ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has emerged as one of the most remarkable box-office success stories of recent Indian cinema, turning a modest opening into an extraordinary theatrical run and reportedly becoming the most profitable Indian film ever in terms of returns on investment.

The biographical drama, based on the life and spiritual journey of Neem Karoli Baba, initially opened to subdued numbers. However, sustained audience interest and strong word-of-mouth have transformed its fortunes, with the film continuing to attract audiences well into its fifth week.

Fifth-weekend record surpasses major blockbusters

‘Hanuman Ansh’ has reportedly registered the biggest fifth-weekend collection in Indian box-office history, surpassing Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’.

According to trade figures cited by The Times of India, several major blockbusters, including ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Dhurandhar 2’, ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘KGF 2’, ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’, earned less than half of the fifth-weekend figure recorded by ‘Hanuman Ansh’.

The film’s unusual trajectory has attracted particular attention because its strongest momentum has come several weeks after its release rather than during its opening weekend.

From modest opening to major profitability

The film’s profitability has become an even bigger talking point than its box-office collections. Produced on a limited budget, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has generated substantial returns relative to its production cost, prompting trade observers to describe it as one of India’s most financially successful films.

Trade estimates cited by The Times of India indicate that the film’s domestic theatrical collection could move towards ₹150 crore, even as newer releases compete for screens and audiences.

The film also recorded its highest single-day collection on Day 31, an unusual achievement that underlines its growing audience momentum.

Devotional cinema finds a wider audience

The success of ‘Hanuman Ansh’ also highlights the growing theatrical potential of films rooted in spirituality, faith and Indian cultural traditions.

Rather than relying solely on a large opening, the film appears to have benefited from sustained audience discovery and word-of-mouth recommendations. Its performance demonstrates how a film with a focused subject and modest production scale can develop into a major theatrical success when audience engagement continues beyond its opening weeks.

Overseas release planned

The film’s success is now set to move into international markets. Hombale Films has acquired the international distribution rights, with the overseas release scheduled for September 11. The international release will test whether the film can replicate its domestic performance among audiences outside India.

First film in planned trilogy

Starring Shobhinaw Satyaa and Chandan Anand, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ is the first instalment of a planned trilogy inspired by the book Divine Detour: That Changed My Life.

The film is written and directed by Dr Vishal Chaturvedi and produced by Ragini S, Namrata G Singh, Anupriya A Nagar and Dr Vishal Chaturvedi under the banners of SWAMbhu Media Network and Holy Cow Home Productions.

With its journey from a relatively quiet opening to record-breaking fifth-weekend numbers, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has become a striking example of how word-of-mouth, audience connection and sustained theatrical interest can reshape a film’s box-office destiny.
