Launch of Australia-India Leadership Dialogue 2023

Australia

The Australia India Leadership Dialogue launched at Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday 17th October with a key focus on India’s place at the forefront of global development and the significant role Australia can play as a major security and economic partner.

The Australia India Leadership Dialogue is the premier forum for informal diplomacy between Australia and India. The 2023 leadership dialogue will bring together key government, business, and cultural figures as part of a collaboration between the Australia India Institute and Australian-founded global software company Atlassian.

The Dialogue provides an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between Australian and Indian leaders, enhance the framework for regional security, promote business and commercial opportunities, and advance people-to-people links in a manner that underwrites economic and cultural prosperity for Australian and Indian citizens. Addressing Australia-India bilateral relations in the wider context of the Indo-Pacific region, the Dialogue provides a forum for consensus-building that paves the way to agreements on formal outcomes.

As the eyes of the world turn to India following the G20, the Australia India Leadership Dialogue will hear from the best and brightest voices from both countries on clean technology, security, culture, and jobs and skills. It is structured as a multistakeholder cross-sectoral roundtable that involves 50 delegates including business leaders, cabinet ministers and government officials, who are joined by thought leaders in academia, media, and civil society to address shared challenges in the Australia-India relationship and explore areas for cooperation.

Bilateral ties between Australia and India have never been stronger. The two nations have seen a convergence on security interests, had a bilateral trade agreement come into force, collaborated on renewable energy and have grown deeper cultural connections.
