Adil Rashid’s Mural Unveiled at Bradford Park Avenue Cricket Ground. A stunning mural of Adil Rashid MBE, the renowned Yorkshire and England cricketer, has been unveiled at Bradford Park Avenue, his local cricket ground in his hometown of Bradford. The mural showcases Rashid’s signature bowling action and celebrates his achievements, coinciding with the start of the Northern Superchargers’ campaign in The Hundred, a brand new cricket competition.
Rashid, a two-time England World Cup winner and the world’s top-ranked T20 bowler, expressed his delight at the honour. “It’s an honour to have this amazing piece of artwork created, especially in a ground that means so much to me personally. I’ve spent many hours in the nets here and working with the team. Hopefully, this inspires the next generation of talent from the local area,” he said.
The mural stands as a tribute to Rashid’s contribution to cricket and his deep ties to Bradford. Nasa Hussain, Head Groundsman at Bradford Park Avenue Cricket Ground, also shared his enthusiasm. “We are very proud to unveil this mural at Bradford Park Avenue. Adil is an icon in the area, and this is a fantastic tribute to someone who has had such a positive impact on the local community.”
Hussain hopes that Rashid’s influence will inspire young talent in the region. “There is a lot of cricketing talent in the area already, and hopefully Adil representing the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred will inspire more children to take up the sport.”
This weekend marks the Northern Superchargers’ first game in The Hundred, an exciting new format of cricket aimed at attracting new audiences. Combining fast-paced cricket with entertainment, the competition is designed to make the sport more accessible. Each game lasts less than three hours, with 100 balls per team, and the team scoring the most runs wins.
The Northern Superchargers, based in Leeds, will play four home games at Emerald Headingley, featuring star players like Ben Stokes, Lauren Winfield-Hill, and Rashid himself. Imogen Ward, Fan Engagement Manager at The Hundred, highlighted the significance of the mural for the Bradford community. “Adil is a well-known name in the sport and one of Bradford’s greatest sporting heroes, so we wanted to celebrate him in style with this stunning artwork,” she explained.
The mural not only commemorates Rashid’s incredible achievements but also aims to inspire the Bradford community and foster local pride in both cricket and the new competition.
As The Hundred kicks off, cricket fans in Bradford and beyond are eager to see their local hero in action, with hopes that this mural will encourage even more youngsters to follow in Rashid’s footsteps.
